I’ve been going on about Values for a while now and the importance of identifying your own, but why can they make a difference?
We spend a lot of time trying to understand other people who come into our lives, whether they are friends or family, yet instead, we could spend that energy on trying to understand the most important person, which is ourselves.
What difference would it make, well for a start you could probably avoid a lot of what doesn’t make you happy or fulfilled, you can imagine how amazing that would be! Rubbish relationships, angry arguments, wasted energy and crappy jobs, ok it’s inevitable one will make mistakes, and financial need gets in the way too, but eliminating some would be amazing.
I’d never even thought of values until I entered the coaching world, I don’t think I fully understood what they were and why they mattered. Values are what makes you function, what makes you tick, makes you everything that you are, and here’s the thing if you find yourself in a situation which makes you unhappy and unsatisfied then it’s probably because you are not in align with your values.
Some weeks ago I was located whilst working in one of the most stunning five- star hotels in Europe, seated in the most sumptuous of lobbies, however, I felt stone-cold bored. The staff were fabulous, offering me this and that with smiles, yet there was nothing to change my emotion.
These days I rarely feel bored so I decided to google boredom and here is what came up: inadequate rest or nutrition.
low levels of mental stimulation, lack of choice or control over your daily activities. lack of diversified recreational interests.,poor perception of time.

Oh dear, also Psychology today says that 90% of American adults experience boredom at some point in their daily lives, wow daily! And that boredom is considered a form of depression, which made me think that means the medication option.
I remembered my most recent set of top values includes challenge, then I quickly understood my boredom emotion. I could deal with it, I could reflect on it, I could change my circumstances, I knew how to fix it. I need some sort of challenge to function happily, to change what’s going on in my head.
When I was eighteen, I often felt bored, I worked in a repetitive job, I didn’t see a way out of my current situation. I complained that I was bored, only to be told only the boring was bored, which didn’t help. There was no internet, no google, no coaches, Fortunately, a travel job came my way which radically changed my life, but if it hadn’t who knows how my life-journey would have developed.
Values could help any age group. Values are empowering, and part of my empowerment program ‘Discovering your Inner Self’ identifies your top 20 values, followed by  identifying  the top five, these are the ones that really make you tick, the ones create the most impact on your life, they help you make decisions, make changes, give you the courage to say no to what you don’t want, and yes to what you do and  then live the life you deserve.
